Hire Quality Engineers
Quality is the one plant role where the consequence of a bad hire is external. A production mistake costs you a shift; a quality mistake reaches your customer, triggers a complaint, and in the auto chain can cost you the business. So the screen is built around audits and documentation: which standard, which customer, which audit did they personally stand in front of, and what observations came out of it.
How We Fill It
The distinction that matters most is between working in a certified plant and owning the certification. Thousands of CVs list IATF 16949 because the employer held it. Far fewer candidates have prepared the documentation, defended it and closed the observations. We ask directly, and the answer separates the shortlist in two questions.
Within quality, incoming and in-process QC, supplier quality, customer quality and warranty, and NPD quality with APQP and PPAP are different jobs. Supplier quality in particular needs someone who can sit in a vendor's plant and hold a line with their management — a different temperament from an in-process inspector, and a different band.
Timelines & Market
Salary Benchmark
Indicative metro ranges for 2026 — Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune and Chennai. Tier-2 cities typically run 20–30% lower for the same scope.
| Experience | Indicative CTC | What that buys |
|---|---|---|
| 0–2 years | ₹2.4–4.5 LPA | Inspection and documentation support |
| 3–5 years | ₹5–9.5 LPA | Quality engineer owning a line or a supplier set |
| 6–9 years | ₹9.5–18 LPA | Quality manager; audit and customer-facing ownership |
| 10+ years | ₹18–32 LPA+ | Head of quality; premium for OEM customer-quality background |
These are negotiating frames drawn from the mandates we run, not a quote. Bands move with sector, funding stage, city and how scarce the specific skill is in that market — ask us for a benchmark against your exact role and location.
Our Screen
Audit standard worked to and personally faced, PPM or rejection numbers they owned, structured root-cause ability demonstrated on a real problem, measuring-instrument and gauge knowledge, and documentation discipline
IATF 16949 or the standard you operate to, core tools (APQP, PPAP, FMEA, MSA, SPC) used rather than listed, CMM and metrology experience, Six Sigma Green Belt with a real project, and supplier-audit exposure
Whether they prepared the documentation or filed it, which audits they personally attended, and whether a customer complaint they handled actually closed
JD Outline
Use this as the starting point for your job description — it is the scope we brief candidates on.
Interview Structure
Four rounds, each testing something different. Rounds that repeat each other cost you candidates without improving the decision.
Standards and audits personally faced, PPM owned, core tools used, instruments handled, and whether the documentation was theirs.
Walk through a control plan and an FMEA they wrote, and a PPAP they submitted. Candidates who only maintained documents cannot sustain this.
A live rejection or customer complaint from your plant, worked through to root cause and corrective action. Structure and evidence, not a guess.
Whether they can stop a line against production pressure, and whether they can hold a line with a supplier's management. Backbone is part of the specification here.
Why It Stays Open
We raise these at the briefing rather than after a month of silence.
Working somewhere that holds IATF is not the same as preparing and defending the documentation. Two specific questions — which audit did you attend, which observations did you close — resolve it before you spend an interview slot.
Supplier quality means travelling to a vendor's plant and holding a position against their management. An in-process inspector, however accurate, is often the wrong temperament, and the role will quietly stop being done.
A quality engineer needed before a customer audit is a two-week search at best. Starting four weeks out gives you a real choice; starting one week out gives you whoever is free.
If quality cannot halt production, the role is decorative and good candidates work that out in the interview. Be explicit about the authority the role carries — it is a genuine attraction for the people worth hiring.

Sector practiceFAQs
We ask which audits the candidate personally attended, what their role in the audit was, which observations were raised against their area and how those were closed. Candidates whose exposure was only working in a certified plant cannot answer past the second question. The answer goes on the shortlist note in writing.
Yes, and audit-driven mandates run on a compressed timeline with a shortlist inside 48 hours. We filter specifically for candidates who have personally faced that standard and that customer rather than for people who have worked in a certified plant, which is a much smaller and more useful pool. Starting three to four weeks before the audit gives you a real choice.
In-process quality is about inspection discipline, sampling and reaction time on your own floor. Supplier quality is about travelling to vendors, auditing their process capability and holding a position against their management, often while they are also your commercial partner. Different skill, different temperament, different band — and mixing them in one JD leaves the role open.
Yes. Pharma and food plants run to GMP, GLP and HACCP rather than IATF, with validation and documentation practices of their own, and we source quality engineers for those standards specifically. The screening logic is the same — which audits did you personally face — but the pools barely overlap, so we never cross-submit between them.
